Mr. B. Hanumanth Rao’s R & D Career began in 1998 and continue to work towards the technology & product development in the fields of corrosion resistance, defence, automic energy, space, cryogenic, ship building and electrical for greater customer satisfaction.
An out standing contribution of Mr. Rao to the R & D as a bonding technologist, developed the bonding technology for cladding of high strength composites using an interlayers in two – stage. Later he was successful in developing of a remarkable bonding technique in cladding of three metals at a time using single charge blast in place of two – stage claddings system. The combinations are Zr + Ti + CSF Duplex S – 31803 + SS 304 + CS, Ti r.2, Gr.7, Gr.11, Gr.12, Al + Ti + CS, Al.Mg + Al ( CP ) + CS. All these three – layered composites are cost effective and time – saving over two – stage cladding system.
Another successful technology development of Mr. Rao to the bonding of high strength metals without interlayers in single charge firing. The combinations are Zr + CS, duplex S – 31803 + CS , super duplex S – 32750 + CS, Ti Gr.2, Gr.7, Gr.11, Gr.12 on CS / SS, Ti.Gr.1 10 tk on AB2PK ( high strength alloy hallow steel forging, 250 tk ( top & bottom ) SS 304 L 12 tk on DMR 249 – 100 tk ( high yield strength alloy steel ). This is the attractive and significant economically approach in saving time and economy.
A significant achievement by Mr. Rao is the technology development for bonding of lead on titanium, lead on copper and lead on steel. Development of these lead clad bonding systems, all these metals have a large difference in yield strengths, densities, melting points and hardness between these metals which are incompatible being explosively bonded successfully by him.
At present overseas manufactures where they have adopted in 2 – stage and 3 – stage cladding methods ( in each top and bottom ). These methods claims time, heavy expenses towards post cladding operations, additional raw materials, then carrying valuable foreign exchange.
Spirited efforts were made to bring the already developed composite material’s technological advantages into commercialization and executed the commercial orders to M /s Alfa Laval ( I ) Ltd - Pune, Titan - Chennai / LG – South Korea Midhani / Indian navy, DMRL - Hyderabad, BARC – Mumbai and NALCO – Orissa.
The indigenously developed outstanding technology for manufacture of bi, tri metallic high strength composites have been successfully proven their performance in the user industries.
A recent technological development by Mr. Rao is the developing of “ Vertical Bonding Technique” using explosive bonding technology ( both side bonding of cladding metals using two – charge and single firing system ) Mr. Rao was successful in vertical bonding – system in bonding of Ti + CS + Ti, Cu + MS + Cu, Ni + SS + Ni, Ti + MS + Cu and Cu + Al + Cu.
